JOANNA (JO) MARIA MORTON (DAMAN) 1912 - 2011 On April 2, 2011 at Vista Park Lodge, Joanna Morton, widow of Joseph Robert, passed away peacefully after a two and one half year stay at the Lodge. Before that she lived in North and East Kildonan and Victoria Beach. She was in her 99th year. Jo, along with twin sister Aleida were the youngest girls in a large family of eight. She was the last surviving member of her family. Jo received her education at Lord Kitchener School. Before her marriage she worked at Eaton's in the catalogue department. Jo married Joe Morton on May 30, 1936 and raised three children. Jo always recognized the importance of education and worked extremely hard as a volunteer and later as a school trustee for 16 years. The River East School Division named a street, Joanna Drive, to honour her dedication to the improvement and advancement of the educational system. Her greatest passions were her gardens and her home, Red Wing, at Victoria Beach. She was extremely artistic when planning her many gardens and flowerbeds as well as her bouquets with cut flowers. She arranged several bouquets for her children and grandchildren's weddings. Jo is survived by her three children: daughter Judith of Victoria, BC, daughter Joanne Jonsson of Victoria Beach and son Jay of Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island. Also survived by her grandchildren: Brad (Tish) Jonsson, and sons Cole and Matt of Winnipeg, Dan Jonsson and his children, Connor and Robyn of Winnipeg and Greg Jonsson of Mar, ON and his daughter Shae of Portage la Prairie, granddaughter Wendy (Jim) Swan and their children, Josephine, Sarah and James of Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, son-in-law Jack Jonsson and daughter-in-law Joan Morton of Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island as well as her parents and siblings. The family would like to give a special thank you to Jo's niece, Diane Peeler, for her help and dedication of Mom's needs as well as the countless visits and providing that special love and care. She is truly an angel. We would also like to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their kind and compassionate care during Mom's stay there. Cremation has taken place. At Mom's request, services will not be conducted. Interment will take place at a later time at the Victoria Beach Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Condolences may be sent in care of Joanne Jonsson to Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. I've loved you all to the very last Weep not for me, but courage take And love one another for my sake. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
