KING FOO (JIM) ENG 1935 - 2011 It is with great sadness we announce Jim Eng passed away, surrounded by his family, at St. Boniface Hospital on April 1, 2011. Dad will be lovingly remembered by Sue Anne, his wife of almost 50 years, along with his children, Jim (Ina) Eng, Jeannie (Terrence) Styba, Lisa (Jeff) Wong, and Garry (Nicole) Eng. Also left to cherish their Grandpa's memory are: Adam and Madison Eng, Anne Marie, Andrew and Matthew Styba and Ainslee and Andrew Wong. Dad is survived by his mother Fung Sau, brother Yuen Foo, sister Ho and predeceased by his father Tim Yuen and brother Peter. Family was always Dad's number one priority. He instilled the importance of both a good education and working hard in his children and grandchildren and was so proud of their many accomplishments. Dad was born in Tai Shan, China on November 3, 1935. At age 17, he left for Canada to come to work with an uncle and cousin at their restaurant in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. In 1961, Dad and Mom were married and they bought their own restaurant in Reston, Manitoba. Dad and Mom still call Reston home with fond memories where they had many good life time friends, raised their four children and worked hard at the Modern Café until retirement in 1989. Retiring at age 53, Dad and Mom moved to Winnipeg to be closer to the kids. Dad stayed busy with his garden, watching his favourite sports (curling, hockey, football and baseball), going to the mall with mom and their friends for coffee, and entertaining friends and family at home. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Penner, Dr. Cal Bergen and staff at Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Paul Daeninck and Dr. Ira Ripstein and staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Dr. Clement Yeung. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. also at Thomson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Grandpa would have wanted donations to help find cures for diseases that affected his grandchildren and others. We request that gifts made in his memory be directed to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Winnipeg Chapter, Ste. 1101-191 Lombard Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X1, phone 204-953-4477, and Children's Hospital Research Foundation, Attn. Childhood Asthma Education Centre, CE501-840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1, phone 204-787-4051.
