ERNA JOHANNA MORK February 20, 1919 April 2, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family of Erna Mork (nee Quatsch), announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Lions Personal Care Centre. Erna was predeceased by her husband Michael, her parents Johanna and John Quatsch, and brothers Reinhold and John. She is survived by her loving daughters, Eleanor Jaeger (Helmut), and Doreen Mork (Kathy Lindsay), grandaughters Joanne Jaeger (Jamie Whitlaw) of Winnipeg, and Karen Jaeger (David George), Boston, MA., and great-grandchildren Quinn and Hannah Whitlaw, her sisters-in-law Inge Mork of Calgary, AB, and Norma Quatsch of Kingston, ON, as well as numerous nephews and nieces throughout Canada. Erna Johanna Quatsch was born February 20, 1919 in Romania. At the young age of 12, she bravely followed her parents and two brothers to Canada, by sailing alone across the ocean and landing at Pier 21 in Halifax. From there she took a lone train trip all the way to Winnipeg. In 1937 she married Michael Mork. They had two daughters, Eleanor and Doreen. Many happy memories were established in the family home on Borebank Street in River Heights, where Erna eventually lived for 70 years. Erna could be found cooking delicious meals for the family, all the while keeping extremely busy with many charities and organizations. Erna was very active in sports. She was an avid bowler, curler and golfer. As a longtime member of the Winnipeg Winter Club and the Southwood Golf and Country Club she won many tournaments and trophies. When she was not able to play she enjoyed watching sports on TV. She had a great sense of humour and shared many a laugh with the family. Erna was a volunteer for many charitable organizations and President of many. She had fond memories of her days in the Khartum Temple Shrine Ladies' Auxiliary, receiving her 50-year lifetime member pin of which she was very proud. She was also a long time member of P.E.O., Chapters E and O. Before and after the loss of her dear husband Michael in 1977, Erna travelled and explored the world. She visited all continents except Antarctica and loved to tell stories about her travels and the adventures that she had, but if you asked her, she would say her favourite vacations were the 10 trips she took to Hawaii with her daughters Eleanor and Doreen. The family would like to thank the staff at Lions Personal Care Centre for their caring and support during this time. Although her stay there was short, we appreciate all that you did for us. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
