Born January 30, 1927 in Montreal, Quebec, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away April 2, 2011 in the early morning hours at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg. Predeceased by parents Wasyl and Dorcia Mihalchan and brother John. Survived by wife Barbara, daughter Cathy Sucharyna (Jerry), son Jamie (Brenlee), and granddaughters Tanya and Tamara Sucharyna and Talya and Jenna Mihalchan. Also surviving are sisters Mary Smith, Olga Backman (Larry), brothers Steve and Mike, and several nieces and nephews. Dad joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 to 1945, then attended Concord University obtaining a B.A. in 1946 subsequently joining the R.C.A.F. in 1954, retiring in 1974 with the rank of Squadron Leader. He served across Canada finally settling in Winnipeg. After retirement mom and dad travelled around the globe, from Australia to Russia, the United Kingdom and across Canada. Dad had a love of gardening and enjoyed the early morning hours spent in the garden. He loved crossword puzzles, keeping the mind sharp and had a vast stamp collection which occupied many hours of his time. Dad was especially proud of his grandchildren and looked forward to seeing them flourish. Dad had a love for all animals, whether the neighbourhood stray cat or the squirrels in the yard. If those choose to, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Peter's memory. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave.
