WALTRAUT HERTA ELFRIEDE MARTENS 1926 - 2011 On April 4, 2011 at the Riverview Health Centre, Waltraut passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Mom was predeceased by her husband Karl-Heinz and will be lovingly remembered by her children Carmen (Harold), Helga, Heidi (Les), Henry (Geri), grandchildren Brenda-Lee (Wil), James (Cheryl), Trevor (Megan), Gary, and great-grandchildren Emily, Evan, Erika and Elizabeth. Born in Germany, Mom worked as a bookkeeper and in 1954 with her two eldest children, she immigrated to Canada to meet up with Dad and begin their new life. Unfortunately due to the language barrier, Mom had to discontinue bookkeeping and worked for many years at the Winnipeg Clinic in the housekeeping department. Mom then worked at Eaton's selling dainties until retirement. She enjoyed many precious moments with her grandchildren and took great pleasure in a good cup of coffee while browsing through the Eaton's catalogue. Mom enjoyed (winning) a competitive game of cards and later in life took up bowling where she loved to point out her higher score to Dad. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Mom's life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
