Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. JOSEPH SWANSON (SHWALUK) DVM Passed away peacefully on April 3, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Born March 20, 1924, Shoal Lake, Manitoba. Survived by his children Kathryn Sterling (Larry), David Swanson (Marie), Linda Haennel (Robert), Raymond Swanson (Betty Jean); his grandchildren Jennifer Wall (Chad), Natalie Hazell (Nathan), Steve Haennel and finance Jill, Kathleen Haennel, Thomas Haennel, Kate Swanson; his great-grandson James Wall: sister Minnie Procopchuck (Sid), and Marion Usick (Rudy). Also survived by Elsie Shmyr (Swanson). Predeceased by parents Steve Shwaluk and Katherine Shwaluk (1981), brothers Ross (1935), Wesley (1944), Walter (2001), sisters Jennie (1975), Margaret (2001) and Anne (2010). Joe graduated from the University of Guelph, Veterinary Medicine in 1950. He worked for two years for the Saskatchewan government and then three years in Wallaceburg, Ontario. In 1954 he moved to Windsor and established the Windsor Pet Hospital where he practiced for 47 years, taking care of numerous family pets. Joseph will be missed by longtime friends Helen and Al Macri, Alex Romanski, Laura Clark, Dr. Louis Tekavec, and Stephen and MaryAnn Marshall. Joe was proud belonging to the Windsor Ukrainian Business and Professional Association and the Windsor Detroit Ukrainian Graduates. He loved to walk the Ganatchio trail, play the ponies at the Windsor Raceway and enjoyed The bush property which was his playground. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 253-7234, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service here at the Chapel on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rt. Rev. Fr. Eugene Halitsky. His remains will be laid to rest near his hometown of Shoal Lake, MB at a later date.
