DARLENE RUTH KALENCHUK (nee VINCE) December 23, 1950 April 5, 2011 It is with great sorrow that we announce, after a lengthy illness, the death of Darlene in Winnipeg at the age of 60 years. Left to forever cherish Darlene's memory is her devoted and loving husband Earl of 25 years of marriage; daughters Audra, Jodie (Mike) and grandchildren Angelika and Michael; mother, Helen Vince (nee Berndt); brothers Ken (Phyllis), Larry (Karen), Todd (Charlene) and sister-in-law Lona. She was predeceased by her father William Vince and brother Wayne. Darlene was born in Winnipeg and grew up in East Kildonan attending and graduating from Miles Mac Collegiate. She was an avid lover of music from an early age and particularly enjoyed the music of Barbara Streisand and The Beatles. She often would tell us about how her oldest brother Ken, would come home with a new Beatles record it seemed every week for her. This was a special memory for her. Darlene was an accomplished singer with a voice that rivaled that of Streisand herself. Hearing her sing was truly a wonderful experience. She loved horticulture and a home filled with a wide variety of plants. Darlene was always in her garden and enjoyed watching the tulips and lilies bloom every year. As well, she loved animals, in particular Corgi dogs. Her and Earl loved going for Sunday breakfast and spent many happy times dining at Nick's Inn in Headingley, MB. Being an intelligent and educated woman one of Darlene's greatest accomplishments was attaining her Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Criminology from the University of Winnipeg. She had a great appreciation for art and would often frequent the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden at Assiniboine Park. At the request of Darlene, no formal service will take place. A private family memorial will be held in the summer of 2011 to scatter her ashes on summer roses as was her wish. We would like to offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to special friend Pauline who remained devoted to Mom until the very end, visiting her every Saturday, bringing her favourite special treat, a Tim Hortons Yogurt and Berries. You meant the world to her and we are eternally grateful to you for being a true friend in her time of need. As well thank you to the staff of the GD 4 and 5 Units at HSC for the care you gave her during her stay. In lieu of flowers, donations in Darlene's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or the Canadian Celiac Association- Manitoba Chapter, 123 St. Anne's Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 2Z1. We wish you peace and love and are happy you are now free of the terrible illness that took you from us too soon. We love you Mom.

I met Darlene in 1997 or 98, and though our homes were some 3500 km apart, we shared a friendship that was picked up at each visit, each email and each phone call as if no time had passed since the last one. Yesterday I came across a note from Darlene, and feel sorrow at the second anniversary of her passing, but grateful that her suffering was finished, and her spirit soars free. Dar, enjoy that cup of coffee with God you spoke about! With love and fondest memories, Anne from YK - Posted by: Anne Wilson (Friend) on: Mar 25, 2013
