ENID LOUISE COUSINS Peacefully, on April 2, 2011, at the age of 82, Enid Louise Cousins passed away at Park Manor Personal Care Home. Enid was born on April 24, 1928 in Brandon, Manitoba to James and Gertrude Cousins. She is survived by her sister Bernice (Bernard) Honke, nephew Leslie (Lori-Lynn) Honke and their son Michael, niece Laura (Paul) Knappenberger and their son Ben. She also leaves to mourn her chosen family Harvey (Angela) Maes and their children Jonathan (Deseree) and Javan. A native of Seven Sisters, Manitoba she obtained her teaching certificate in 1948 at the age of 20. She taught school in Warren, Selkirk and Great Falls before coming to Transcona to teach Grade 5. In 1960, when a special needs class was begun, Enid was chosen to teach the very first experimental class. She became one of the best loved teachers in the former Transcona-Springfield School Division where she was genuinely interested in the education of students with special needs and learning disabilities. The school board, on several occasions recognized her invaluable contribution to special education in the Division. She retired from teaching in 1987. In addition to her love of children Enid had a special place in her heart for her beloved pets and took great pleasure in her garden and flowers. Her life-long love of learning never ended and she surrounded herself with books and kept up to date on current events. She was known for her generous spirit, strong determination and her quick mind. Enid was also a very spiritual person who enjoyed being part of the South Transcona Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1989. Enid trusted that Jesus would fulfill his role as the resurrection and the life (John 11:25) and looked forward to the opportunity of being reunited with her beloved friends and family in Paradise on earth. (John 5:28, 29) A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 930 Pandora Avenue West.
