Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY MABEL BLACK (formerly Hull) ( nee Poole) October 21, 1923 - April 6, 2011 Peacefully on April 6 2011, Dorothy passed away at the Concordia Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents Mabel and Sam Poole, stepmother Jean Poole, first husband Ernie Hull, second husband Howard Black and brother-in-law Hughie McDermid. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her three sisters Irene (Paul) Dallain of New Carlisle, Quebec, Frances McDermid of Fort St. James, BC, Susan (Larry) Moniuk of Anola, MB, along with numerous nieces and nephews in BC and Quebec; as well as many stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the Hull and the Black families. Dorothy was very involved in scouting in Manitoba and was still a member of the BP Guild. She had a long career with Canada Safeway that spanned over 40 years. She started in the produce warehouse and ended her career in the cheese department. After marrying her first husband Ernie she retired from Safeway so they could winter in Arizona. After Ernie's death Dorothy returned to Safeway. Dorothy lived in Lions Manor for 28 years, she was very active in the resident council and received a plaque from them for her years of volunteer service. It was at Lions Manor she met and married her second husband Howard. Together they enjoyed many trips and cruises. In 2009 Dorothy moved to Devonshire House in Transcona. She was sad to leave her many friends at Lion's Manor, but she met some wonderful new friends and greatly enjoyed her year and a half there. Dorothy was a lover of casinos and went on many bus trips with Susan and Larry. When her health would no longer allow her to travel, she looked forward to a weekend at South Beach when Irene and Frances would visit every September, she also loved playing games, cards, bingo and anything as long as she won. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., Winnipeg, MB. Officiants will be Rev. Peter Flynn and Rev. Cathy Campbell. Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arlen Rosner, Phillip Hull, Brian Hull, Michael Hull, Christopher Black and Shawn Hayden. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association.
