GEORGE ROBERT HAMILTON
Date of Passing: Apr 05, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE ROBERT HAMILTON Peacefully, on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Riverview Health Centre, following a courageous battle with cancer, George (Bobby), aged 63 years, made his transition from this life to the next. George will be lovingly remembered by his best friend and soul mate, Laureen Narfason; cousins Margaret Dokken (nee Hamilton) and Kerry, Craig and Rhoda, and family members in BC; close friend Peter Johnson, and the many other friends he made throughout his lifetime. George was predeceased by his mother Annie Hamilton, grandparents George and Annie Hamilton; aunt Rose Grawberger (nee Hamilton); and uncles Jack, Robert and George Hamilton. George was born in Manitou, Manitoba, where he lived until his teen years. At that time he moved to Transcona and remained in Winnipeg until his final days. Throughout his lifetime, George made positive contributions, both as a volunteer and an employee, to a number of non-profit organizations, notably the Hi Neighbour Festival of Transcona, the Folk Arts Council, CHOM, Age and Opportunity, and the Canadian Council on Disability Studies. He received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Winnipeg and maintained a close relationship with professors in that Department throughout the years. George developed and maintained good relationships with many people throughout his lifetime. Compassion and support for others were integral to his character, and he could always be counted on for his enthusiasm and ever present smile. Due to his great interest in researching and learning about a variety of subjects, George has been aptly described as the ultimate student . He was also an idea person, and it was his ability to come up with ideas, along with his keen interest in research, that led him to start the Workplace Innovation Centre, a Crown Corporation of the province of Manitoba, in the mid-1980s. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, George had an abiding faith in God and Jesus Christ, and he looked forward to meeting again with family and friends who had passed on before him. Many thanks go to the staff at Riverview for their exceptional care, as well as to Dr. John Bracken (St. Boniface Surgical Associates), Community Therapy Services (especially Janette), and WRHA home care nurses, all of whom were so supportive to George during his illness. He will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 45 Dalhousie Dr., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB, or to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint's Humanitarian Aid program, in care of Waverley Ward, 45 Dalhousie Dr., Winnipeg, MB. And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then I would fly away and be at rest. (Psalms 55:6) NEIL BARDAL INC. FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
