Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNIE ELIZABETH (BETTY) MASSON Annie Elizabeth (Betty) Masson died on April 6, 2011 with her family at her side. Mom was predeceased by her husband Alan Masson; son-in-law Bruce Benoit and parents John and Annie (Downey) Mackie. Her memory will be lovingly held by her daughters Pat Benoit, Gaylene (Bob) Brett, Shannon (Chris) Peake, Shelley (Charlie Brown) Masson, Laurel (Leonard) Sidon and Alison (Joe Lasko) Masson. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren Leah, Kristy; David, Robin; Brian, Nicole, Michelle; Alastair; Amanda, Jesse; Chantal, Danielle and Ashley and great-grandson Shea. Mom was born June 3, 1924 on a farm in Wellwood, Manitoba. At the age of ten, she lost her mother. She remained on the farm and was raised by her father. We loved hearing the stories of the horse drawn school bus', the one-room school, farm-life, and the Air Force dances of the war-years. Betty moved to Winnipeg to study at business college and met Alan who became her husband of 38 years before his death in 1990. Betty and Al had six daughters and spent most of their lives together in St. Vital where she was kept busy running a happy home. Betty had a strong, giving nature and was a valuable volunteer at Varennes School, with Girl Guides, Cancer Society, bowling teams, Red River Seniors and Appleton Estates Social Club. She brought her solid organizational skills, her warmth and her dedication to each group she belonged to. She had a sharp mind and could add a sum of numbers faster than a calculator and remember minute details for years! Betty worked as an auditor and then teacher of business college before raising her family. She later returned to work in the field of finance, managing the Manitoba Pool and Belgian Credit Unions. Mom spent many years enjoying the peace and beauty surrounding the family cottage at Star Lake. She and Al enjoyed winters in Hawaii and Texas. Betty became quite a traveler visiting throughout North America, Europe and North Africa. Family and friends will miss mom's steadfast support, encouragement and warm smile. Her grandchildren will fondly remember Grandma Bup' for her famous Easter cookies, New Years Day dinners, Thanksgivings at the lake, and endless games of cards. Mom constantly impressed us with her perseverance and self reliance even during her time with Alzheimer's. In accordance with Betty's wishes, cremation and a family service will be held. Should you wish, a donation in Betty's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba or a charity of choice.
