Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN JOAN WHITLOCK (nee Davies) After a long and happy life filled with family and friends Lillian passed away peacefully with family by her side at St. Boniface Hospital on March 28, 2011. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Harold Whitlock and second husband Les Nutting as well as her brothers Jim, Ted, and Bob Davies, sisters Dorothy Creed and Margaret Parsons, brothers-inlaw Herb Creed and Glen Parsons, sisters-in-law Josephine Davies, Jan Davies, and Eileen Whitlock and stepson Bob Nutting (Ellie). She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children: Garth (Connie), Janice (Jim) and Glen (Sue); her stepson Bill (Mary) Nutting; her brothers Don and Jack (Bernice) Davies; her sisters-in-law Dorothy and Rhoda Davies as well as her grandchildren: Mandy (Paul), Justin, Jillian, Reid, Jamie, and Stephanie along with many other family members and friends. Mom was born on December 6, 1921 in Winnipeg to Agnes and Ethelbert Davies. She developed her positive outlook on life, sense of humour and giving sharing nature in her childhood home amongst seven siblings. Mom was a natural athlete and in her high school years excelled in sports, especially track and field. All through her life she loved going for walks and even in her later years was known for her extensive walking at Grand Beach. In 1943 Mom married the love of her life Harold and settled in Fort Rouge where they raised their three children in a warm and loving home. Mom was always involved in her children's school and activities. Although she did not work after her children were born, she filled her days as a tireless volunteer enhancing the community. She was a member and later president of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital Guild, as well as a Cub Scout and Explorer leader. Grand Beach was always a big part of Mom's life. Many Saturdays during their courtship Mom and Dad would take the moonlight special to the dance hall at Grand Beach. They spent their honeymoon there and also rented a cottage for summer vacations when the kids were young. In 1977 they purchased a cottage with Garth and Janice and spent many happy times there. Eventually each purchased their own cottage and in 1996 Mom had Casa Grandma built which was her pride and joy and where many family dinners and rousing games of bunko were played. Other extended family members followed their lead and purchased cottages so everyone looked forward to spending their summers together. Mom was widowed in 1980 and in 1983 met Les while vacationing in Phoenix with her sister Dorothy and thus began her snow bird life where she formed many long lasting friendships and met her new extended family. Although Mom and Les had a short time together they travelled to numerous destinations which they both enjoyed. Mom was welcomed into Les' family and even after his passing, each year looked forward to spending American Thanksgiving and Easter with Bill, Mary and their growing family. Mom loved to spend winters in Phoenix and was happy to see each of her children and their families when they came to visit. Mom had many interests in addition to her family. She always liked to be doing something, whether it was walking, reading, organizing family events, baking, knitting or playing the occasional game of bingo or the slots. Mom's passing (aka Grandma Chicken) leaves a big hole in the lives of her family as she was so important to all of us. The family would like to thank Canadian Blood Services and all the medical professionals for their compassion, knowledge and care in particular Anne, Mom's palliative nurse and especially Dr. Karen Braun whose amazing care kept Mom healthy and active until the end. A memorial service celebrating Mom's life will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. in Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive. In lieu of flowers should friends so desire donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 203 - 290 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2N8 or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc. 675 McDermot Ave., RM 0N1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9.
