Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALDINE CARLYLE STROME (nee McCurley) Geraldine passed away peacefully at 11:20 a.m. on April 7, 2011 at Holy Family Nursing Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her parents James and Margaret McCurley, her sister Eileen, and her husband Lloyd Theodore Strome. She is survived by her loving family; sons Paul, Steve, and Chris; daughters-in-law Joanne Patience - Strome and Denise Gauthier; granddaughters Kaitlin Meighan Elizabeth Strome and Erika Marie McCurley Strome, and many nieces and nephews. Geraldine was born in the town of Stratford, Ontario on February 7, 1924. She entered the three-year, nurses training course at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario. She affiliated at Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario for her pediatric training. After her graduation she returned to her home town of Barrie, Ontario to nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital after she applied to the National Health and Welfare Department to serve in Canada's north. She travelled to Moosonee, Moose Factory, and then to Fort George (Chisisibi) where she was in charge of the nursing station there. Her expertise in her profession aided her in delivering babies, finger amputations, pulling teeth, as well as many other facets of community health care. Nursing and her family were the loves of her life. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Holy Family Nursing Home. Viewing will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
