Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOPAL DAISY LAVERY (nee FIERCE) After a long and full life, and in the presence of her two children, Opal passed away peacefully April 2, 2011 at Lions Personal Care Centre, at age 94. Left to celebrate her life and to mourn their loss are her son, Raymond Lavery, and her daughter, Diane Pritchard. She will also be remembered with love by Bill Pritchard and Brian Ouellet; granddaughters, Sheena Braun (Paul), Shauna Ramsay (Jason), Shasta Veldkamp (Mike); great-grandchildren, Justin and Hailey Ramsay, Maggie and Paul Braun. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Shiflet (Ken); two sisters-in-law, Mildred Fierce and Kay Fierce, and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and cousins across Canada and the U.S.A. December 9, 1916, she was born in Winnipeg and lived most of her early and adult life in Weston where she met and married her husband, Vic, and raised her family. For many years, she was an active member of the Weston Branch, Royal Canadian Legion and the Brooklands Pioneer Senior Citizens Club. Words cannot capture the essence of her spirited personality or her profound effect on the lives of family, co-workers, neighbours, and friends - suffice to note that she was a wise and supportive friend, a loving wife, a devoted daughter, a loyal sister, a dependable and hard-working employee, a proud and loving mother who placed her children's welfare before her own. Opal was predeceased by her husband, Vic; parents, Ray and Minnie; siblings, Rob, Ginger, Eva, Jim, Johnny, Charlie, and Leo; as well as numerous friends and neighbours. Raymond and Diane wish to acknowledge and thank Jean Channel of Klinic for the friendship and wonderful care she provided for our mother over many years. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the great staff of Lions Personal Care Centre. As well, a sincere thank-you to the staff, friends, and supporters at Lions Place - each of you contributed to the quality of life our mother enjoyed during her retirement years there. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private, family gathering will celebrate her life at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011 in the small chapel of Lions Personal Care Centre, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg with the Reverend Beth Rutherford officiating. Internment will take place at a later date in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Opal's memory to Klinic, 870 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0P1 or to a charity of one's choice.
