Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJENNIFER ANNE LYE April 8, 1945 - April 5, 2011 (nee Richardson) Suddenly, and with no pain, Jenny passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Valerie Richardson, her father-in-law Abner Wiste, and her son, Charlie Lye. Remembering Jenny are her family in Australia: Helen, Margaret, Byron, Sarah, Helen and Colleen. At home, she is remembered by her husband Wayne, her children Christian (Jamie), Valerie (Campbell), Paula, Christopher (Violet), Paul (Christine), Allison (Doug). Also a part of Jenny's life were Charles (Donna), Julie (Glen), Donna (Glenn), Joyce (Glen), James (Joanie), and many nieces and nephews whom she loved. Jenny's grandchildren have always been her greatest source of joy. She shared her sense of wonder in the world with them all, helped to shape their lives, and they were the greatest legacy she ever hoped to leave. Her grandchildren Jared, Micayla, Alexandra, Shayla, Kathleen, Kingsley, Jonah, Scotty, Sophia, Amara, and Mary will all miss her. Nathan and Rhae, she was looking forward to being a part of your lives. Jenny was born in Sydney, Australia, and moved to Medlow Bath at age nine, where her parents operated the Post Office and General Store. Her strong work ethic developed early, helping her Mum and Dad with the store, and the care of her two younger sisters. Jenny's best friend growing up was her horse, Blacky, they were inseparable. Jenny's first passion was nursing; she started her training at Sutherland Hospital in Caringbah, where she received an excellent education. In 1967, Jenny and two good friends were planning to move to London for work. However, when she saw a hockey game on a newsreel, Jenny wanted to experience this ballet on ice in person, and she and her friends moved to Winnipeg instead, where she began her nursing career at the Health Sciences Centre. Jenny was fiercely dedicated to her family, and had a very unique and special relationship with all of her children. Special memories that we will always have of her include: Orchids, literature, Monty Python, Anne of Green Gables, the Billabong Books, pickerel, hockey (of course), black 'n blue steak, the excellent care she gave any of us when we needed her, including before and during the birth of our children, tying skates, how to be a fan in the stands at the rink, fashion, pearls, ox-tail soup, and knowing what room she was in by following the laughter. Jenny was another mom' for many of our friends; her door was always wide open. She was very creative in the kitchen, could make amazing meals out of a few ingredients, and spurred a love of food and hospitality in all of us. Jenny and Wayne had plans to visit Australia next year, as they shared a true love of travel, new places, and new people. She also loved to garden, and Jenny's sense of beauty and life was displayed in her yard at home. Jenny dedicated the last two years of her life to the care of her mother-in-law, Ruth, and ensured that her every need was met beyond expectation. Jenny's nursing career included many different facilities, and she found personal and professional fulfillment at Deer Lodge Center, where she found a standard of care that matched her own. Her career there started as a Health Care Aide, continued as an RN, and culminated as a nursing coordinator. She respected every job position involved in running the hospital - even the doctors! Jenny never stopped learning, and without fail was the 'go-to person' when a critical situation took place. Jenny's passion for continuing education changed many lives. A Celebration of her life will be held on Monday, April 11, at Deer Lodge Center, in the Chapel at 10:00 p.m. This time was chosen in honor and remembrance of the women and men who dedicate their lives to the 'night shift'. As her husband Wayne said, She gave so many nights, we want to give one back. In lieu of flowers her family requests donations to be made to Deer Lodge Center, or Forward House Ministries.
