SUSAN ABRAMS (SAWATZKY) 1920 - 2011 It is with tremendous heartache that we share with you, the death of our beloved mother Susan on March 31, 2011, in her 90th year. A little country girl born to David and Maria Sawatzky in Roland, Manitoba, she was eventually surrounded by a loving family including six siblings. Mom was predeceased by Dad, the love of her life for 67 years in December 2006, and a loving son James in May of 2001. Mom was raised in Altona, Manitoba and remained in the surrounding area as a young girl. As a new bride, Mom and Dad eventually settled down in Letellier, Manitoba until their big move to Calgary, Alberta. She was a stay at home mom and later worked in the community. Although shy by nature she still managed to make friends very easily. Mom was very talented and creative. With six children to sew, clean, cook and bake for, one can only imagine the long days and short nights. Mom lived a vibrant active life and was loved by many. A passionate mother, grandmother, homemaker, gardener, seamstress, curler, lover of tea houses, special friend, and scrabble queen . Mom took great pride in her role as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who treasured family time above all. Mom will be missed profoundly by her children, Jean (Henry), Shirley (Martin), Robert, Verna (Marcel, Sharon (John), 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren, siblings and friends. Mom and Dad loved the outdoors and as a young couple, gardened, went on Sunday drives, attended rodeos, picnicked, and drove many miles on their frequent journeys to spend time with family and friends back home. The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria General Hospital for caring for Mom in her time of need, and especially ICU staff thank you for giving us some extra time with Mom. As a celebration of Mom's life, we would be honoured to have you share in a Memorial service to be held on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers let us all remember mothers young and old worldwide and their imparted life lessons about the importance of loving and caring for each other.
