Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALICE WADDELL (nee ZAMKOTOWICH) July 10, 1938 - April 14, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Waddell of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Alice leaves to mourn, her husband of 52 years, Don. She leaves her sons Brian (Wendy), Kelly (Tanya), Tim (fiancé Suzy), daughter Shelley Gunn (Geoff) and grandchildren Stephanie, Jessica, Keaton, Zachary, Kailey, Logan and Owen. She is also survived by brothers Ed (Donna) and Frank (Christine) as well as brothers-in-law John (Pearl), and Ken (Chris). Alice lived her formative years in the Kings Park area, attending school there and starting her working career at the University of Manitoba Food Services. She later worked in a medical office as a receptionist and dental assistant. She married Don when he was a struggling university student and they started their family. She raised their four children with her full time attention and devotion for which the children are forever grateful. She returned to the work force and worked as a cashier at Zellers, Fort Richmond for 16 years. She then worked at a women's clothing store in St. Vital where she delighted in helping her customers find just the right clothes for their wardrobe. Leaving the outside workforce she returned to home making and babysitting her first and second grandchildren, a chore that gave her a world of delight. Travel was fun for Alice as the family camped their way across Canada and the US. Later with the family grown she and Don were able to travel to BC and Ontario and on two occasions to Hawaii, where they shared moments that filled their memory banks. Alice was a kind, loving and very unassuming person who connected on a personal level with many people she met over the years. For the family she was the rudder that steered the ship. She was most often the organizer of family events making sure the dates suited everyone so that no one would be left out. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Emergency and ICU staff of the Victoria Hospital. Their kindness and caring was exceptional. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation (www.thevicfoundation.ca).
