LOIS JANICE ROSS
Date of Passing: Apr 11, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOIS JANICE ROSS (formerly McFadyen) (nee Edick) Peacefully, on April 11, 2011 Lois passed away at the Oakview Place at the age of 85. Mom was the youngest of three children. Growing-up, her brothers Jack and Frank were also her closest friends. Part of her childhood was spent in the States, as her father was a salesman for the Gillette Company. The family did settle in Winnipeg by the time she was ready for school, attending Isaac Brock and St. Mary's. After graduation she worked for a local insurance firm, which mom would later reflect on with fond memories. Our mom did not have to look too far to meet the first love of her life. Dad (Don Mc Fadyen Sr.) lived next door to her on Renfrew Street. He had told her when she was done dating boys , to let him know. After her first child (Penny) was born, she stayed at home to run the family unit in the house they purchased down the street from her parents. A second child (Don) followed six years later. When our father passed in 1969, she raised us on her own, while also working as a unit clerk at both the old and new Victoria hospital. Despite long days, that included taking three busses to work, running the house and being both mom and dad, she always found time for us. She was a born caregiver, which extended beyond her family to included her church and volunteering at West Broadway on Furby. In 1980 she met and fell in love with Howard (Rocky) Ross. He was a great guy and they had a wonderful relationship. Sadly, he passed in 1983. Mom continued to give her love and support to her family, church and volunteering. She will forever be in the hearts of her children: Don McFadyen and Penny Mercer, daughter-in-law Josie, son-in-law Cal, grand-children, Don, Jolene, Jennifer and Heather, the Ross children, John, Patricia, Cathy and Shirley and their many children and grandchildren. Let's not forget the many other family and friends of lives she touched. Memorial service will take place on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Special thanks to the staff at Oakview for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
