VERNA MAY DOWNIE May 29, 1925 April 14, 2011 We are sad to announce the passing of Verna Downie on April 14, 2011 at the Grace Hospital. Verna was predeceased by her parents John and Borghild, brothers Wilfred, Don, Ralph, Lloyd and Wallace and her sister Mary. Remaining to cherish Verna's memory is her best friend in the whole world, her sister Thelma. Also left to mourn Verna's passing is her nieces Leslie, Frances and Esther, her nephews Roger, Paul, Don, Brian and Blair and her sister-in-law Joan Downie. Verna was a long standing and active member of the Rebekahs for over 50 years. She was active in the Queen Esther Lodge #4 and The L.A.P.M. Verna was a long term employee of the Dept. of National Revenue and then Manitoba Telephone System as a switchboard operator. A special thanks to the nurses and doctors on the 3rd floor of Grace Hospital for their care and thoughtfulness. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Place on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
