DONNA ALTA FLETCHER (nee NIXON) July 16, 1930 April 13, 2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Fletcher, beloved wife of Fletch, at the Victoria General Hospital on April 13, 2011, surrounded by her family. She loved life and fought until the end. Donna was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Melvin and Thelma Nixon and grew up in Abbey. She married Fletch October 24, 1953 and they were inseparable for 57 years. She was the loving mom to Karen, Barb and Kim. Donna lived a full and busy life raising her girls, working at Scotiabank and the Pinecrest Seniors Home, curling, golfing, and dancing the night away with dad. She kept a spotless home and shared her love with family and friends through her delicious baking and cooking. Her hands were never idle as she created beautiful needle work, clothes, Halloween costumes and her famous scrubbies. She loved her homes, whether in Winnipeg, Kenora, on Loch Bay, in Paradise Village, summers at Falcon Lake, and she particularly loved her 21 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Mom was active in her community serving as president of the Kenora Lion's Club and president of the Fort Rouge Curling Club ladies curling league. A keen competitor, mom was an outstanding high school athlete and even played tennis with family friend Tommy Douglas. She loved to golf, curl, play bridge, and play the piano. Mom was on the Senior Ladies Ontario provincial curling championship team in 1985. Donna was predeceased by her parents Mel and Thelma Nixon, her sister Evelyn Johnson, her brothers Red Nixon and Bob Nixon, her in-laws Ed and Irene Fletcher, brother-in-law Everett Fletcher and son-in-law Ed Allen.
