Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARC SOURISSEAU January 5, 1914 February 28, 2011 Passed away peacefully at Taché Centre with family by his side. Marc was predeceased by his wife Alice, daughter Marcelle, sister Marie and brothers: Pierre, Joseph, Lucien, Adrien and Henri. He leaves to mourn son Nicolas (Sharon), daughter Lorraine, son-in-law Leo, grandchildren: Mitch (Christine), Paul (Ruby), Yanik (Melanie), Marc (Jane), Rachel (Roger) and Eric (Kelly); great-grandchildren: Jena, Madison, Ruby, James, Patrick, Tommy, Kyra, Marcus and Oscar, as well as many other extended family members. Marc was born in St. Boniface, the eldest of seven children. As a young man, he worked at many jobs before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War where he worked as an aircraft mechanic and learned the shoe repair trade. He married his sweetheart, Alice in 1941 and thus began 56 wonderful years together, raising their three children, enjoying family and friends. He worked as a letter carrier in St. Boniface and Norwood for 26 years and in the evenings, went down to his workshop in the basement of the family home where he repaired shoes, sharpened skates and fixed just about anything his customers would challenge him with. He loved working with wood and in his spare time, he built small pieces of furniture as well as other decorative pieces. He sang in the choir at l'Eglise du Précieux Sang for many years and gave of his time to volunteer in the parish. After his retirement he developed his skill in wood carving and left many beautiful pieces to remember him by. He was a peaceful man who loved to spend time tending his vegetable garden and sharing his harvest. He was an ardent fisherman and often went fishing with friends and family. He and Alice went camping across Canada, but they also spent many summers visiting various campgrounds in Manitoba. Marc took great delight and great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved playing with them. He was patient with them, playing catch, letting them hammer nails in his workshop or teaching them how to play cribbage. He was a man of few words, but enjoyed their innocence and their laughter. We are all very fortunate to have been able to enjoy him for so many years and benefit from his patience, wisdom and kindness. The family would like to thank the staff at Taché Centre who made Dad's last five years very comfortable, especially Dr. Mehta and the staff on 4DE. Dad was very appreciative of the care he received and always spoke so kindly of how well he was treated. A memorial service celebrating Dad's life will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 11:00 a.m. in Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
