Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROY SURMINSKI It is with heartfelt sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dad and gigi, Roy Surminski on Friday, April 15, 2011 at his home at the age of 89 years. Dad was born on November 6, 1921 to John and Katherine Surminski on the family farm in Hamerlik, Manitoba. He attended Leeland School and in his teen years he quit school to work on the farm with his family. On May 15, 1945 he married his beloved wife Mary and together they raised their children while working side by side on the farm. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary of 61 years; son Gerald; parents, John and Katherine Surminski. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Natalie (Mike) Sucharyna, Ernie (Mary), Larry and Brian (Dawnett). Dad will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Terry and Darlene Sucharyna (Ivan), Darrell (Ashley) and Evan (Brittany), Nicole, Allison and Taylor Surminski; his brother Mike and sister-in-law Helen Surminski; and his two brothers-in-law, George (Audrey) and Mike Lysak. Dad spent his life dedicated to farming in the Poplarfield area and took great pride in raising turkeys and cattle and growing grain. Dad was a very hard working man all his life until retirement and was known for never giving up whether times were tough or facing health issues. Dad was actively involved in various aspects of community affairs. He served on the school board, church and cemetery committees. After retirement he enjoyed working in his garden. Over the years as his eye sight declined and reading became difficult, he enjoyed listening to CJOB on the radio and stayed informed on current affairs. He appreciated visits from family and friends and was always interested in how the grandchildren were doing. The family extends their gratitude to his home caregivers, Darlene and David for the excellent care, compassion and friendship. With your help and kindness, Dad was able to stay at his home, as he wished, until his passing. Also, a very special thanks to Uncle Mike Lysak for his regular weekly visits which Dad always looked forward to. We as his family were very fortunate to have had Dad all these many years. We have many happy and beautiful memories to cherish. Dad, you will be sadly missed but you will always have a special place in our hearts. It is very hard to let you go but we know you are happy now to be with Mom. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel, Arborg. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arborg with Father Harry Chuckry officiating.
