DAVID RODERICK REID
Date of Passing: Apr 18, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID RODERICK REID It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dave on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the age of 83 years. Son of William and Daisy Reid. Beloved husband of Noreen. Loving father of Ian (Dale), Colin, Laura (Bill Simpson). Grandfather to Reid (Amanda), Brendan and Jaclyn Black, Erin and Kathleen Reid, Brittany Craik-Reid, Brent, Jeff and Brooke Simpson. Predeceased by his brother William Reid, Dave will be greatly missed by his sister Margaret Howie, brother- in-law Bob Adams (Margaret), sisters-in-law Rose Reid, Jeannie Easterbrook, (Bruce Singleton), June Blake (Jim Robertson), Josephine Holden (Rai Laoge), extended family and many friends. A heartfelt thanks to Grant and Joanne Parisi and all the staff of Deer Run Retirement Home. A special thanks to Kimberley Lalla, dad's loving and most caring caregiver. Dad staged a courageous battle for the last several years after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 78. Even as his physical strength gave way we were so fortunate that his mind remained razor sharp and he never lost his great sense of humour. Born and schooled in Winnipeg dad attended the University of Manitoba, graduating Professional Engineer 1949. In 1951 dad moved to Toronto to take a job with Canadian Comstock Construction. He didn't know it at the time but Comstock would be his only employer, (38 years). Dave met and married Noreen during this period, building their first house in Scarborough with carpenter Joe Adams, Noreen's father. In 1955 Comstock selected Dave to open up their Western division in Winnipeg. With an ever growing circle of friends, a growing family and Dave's very successful career what would follow can only be called great days. Then the icing on the cake; dad introduced mom to Lake Winnipeg and Victoria Beach. Mom never really wanted to leave Ontario, but whatever reservations she might have had evaporated as those Winnipeg winters turned into summers at the beach. In 1973 Dave was transferred back to Toronto eventually becoming Senior VP of now Comstock International. Business would take Dave around the world to the U.S., Africa, Europe, Venezuela and the Middle East. Long before Air Miles, Dave's VIP status with British Airways was landing him on the Concorde's inaugural flight from London to Bahrain. Dad was an avid sportsman, enjoying curling and golf. He and Noreen loved to play bridge and enjoyed the social life around the many friends they made through this activity. Dad enjoyed a wonderful retirement (1989), winters in Florida and Mexico and yes of course, summers at the beach. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street (south of Hwy. 7), 905-889-8889. Visitation to be held one hour prior with a reception to follow the service. For Dad's many friends in Manitoba, please join us for a memorial service at Victoria Beach this summer. Date and time, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family as your expression of sympathy.
