JOYCE MARY SMITH (CAMPBELL) (nee HARRISON) Passed away peacefully at West Park Manor, at age 86, on April 18, 2011. Born July 24, 1924 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended school at St. Ignatius and Kelvin High School. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Clement and Gladys Harrison and her sister Clementine Rice/Scott, as well as her husband Robert Campbell. Joyce was very blessed to have had two great loves in her life; and is survived by her second husband David Smith, as well as her five daughters Roberta Moon (David), Laurel Lins, Gail Campbell (Joyce), Terry Johnson (Kevin), Nola Miller (Dennis), nine grandchildren, Joanne, Christine and Robyn Moon, Jeffrey and Garret Lins, Daniel and Kathryn Johnson, and Erika and Nicholas Miller, as well as four great-grandchildren, Cole, Justine, Hannah and Kaylin. Joyce is also survived by Dave Smith's five children: Steven, David and Tim Smith, Maryanne Robertson and Shauna Gravelines. After graduation from Kelvin High School, Joyce was a swimsuit model for the Hudson Bay Company. Following her marriage to Bob Campbell and birth of her five children, Joyce worked as bookkeeper at the Campbell Heating Co. and at Central Park Lodge. Bob and Joyce were active doing charitable work in the Kiwanis Club, and Joyce volunteered her time at the White Cross Guild and at River Heights Community Club. Socially Bob and Joyce enjoyed curling at Fort Osborne Curling Club and many events with the Wartime Pilots Association. Following many distant travels to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America, Bob and Joyce relocated to Nanaimo, BC and began new adventures there, unfortunately cut short by Bob's passing in 1991. Joyce returned to Winnipeg and soon met and later married David Smith in 1993, and together they embarked on a new chapter of happiness with many exotic travels, and winter months in Palm Springs. Inevitably, both encountered health issues which presented challenges to their togetherness, as Joyce required nursing care at Tuxedo Villa and later West Park Manor. Despite his own health issues, Dave made daily visits to Joyce with treats and loving devotion. The family would like to thank the staff at West Park Manor, Tuxedo Villa as well as the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care. We would also like to express gratitude and appreciation to the family of Dave Smith, who were so supportive in assisting Dave carry out his frequent rendezvous with Joyce. A mass of celebration and remembrance will be held at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011 with reception to follow. Flowers gratefully declined, those wishing to do so may make a donation to a charity of your choice.
