LEWIS JOHN DAIGLE Lewis Daigle was born December 8, 1975 in Winnipeg and passed away peacefully in Nanaimo, BC on April 1, 2011 surrounded by the people he loved. Lewis will be fondly remembered for his wonderful smile and gentle nature. He will be greatly missed by his Mum, Corrine, step-dad Dave; his Dad, John and step-mom Roberta; his sister Dani, Nana Davies, Grandma Joy, Uncle Lindsay, step-sisters, step-brother, numerous, loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who were close to him. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Laurie Daigle, Ben Davies and George Blackmore; Uncle Roy Davies, Nana (Rose Daigle) and his Aunt Helena Daigle. Lewis grew up in Ste. Anne, MB and enjoyed hockey, camping, hunting, fishing and playing his guitar. After graduating from Oak Park High School, Lewis joined the Katimavik program. He travelled across Canada, and engaged in various projects of betterment for local communities. While stationed on Salt Spring Island, BC, the group built stairs down to Vesuvius Bay. Those stairs are still there today. This is where Lew fell in love with Vancouver Island. Lewis also fell in love with someone special from Katimavik which led him to live in Montreal for a number of years. Eventually he returned to Winnipeg where he worked in sales and advertising for Naylor Publications and the Matrix Group. Lew loved music and rarely missed a year of attending the Winnipeg Folk Festival with his sister and friends. He was an avid sports fan and loved his Montreal Canadians. Lewis was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2007 and fought his battle courageously with the assistance of the team at CancerCare Manitoba. Lew loved playing his guitar and became inspired to write songs about the disease that plagued him. In the spring of 2010, Lewis moved to Vancouver Island and settled in Nanaimo near his Dad and sister. He loved riding his bike on the many beautiful trails on the island and enjoyed his time kayaking with his cousin Linda. He was in awe discovering the beauty of the island and felt truly at home. We wish to express our deepest gratitude for the attention, love and care given to Lewis and our family by the nurses at the Palliative Care Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and to everyone who sent their messages of love, prayers and good vibes . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life for Lew will be held in Winnipeg at The Meeting Place, 139 Smith Street on Saturday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m.
