Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARRIET ISOBEL BLAND (nee PETERSON) Peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2011 Harriet Isobel Bland passed away at her new home, River Park Gardens. Left to cherish Isobel's memory is her sister Cora Masson; daughter-in-law Rosemary Bland; grandson Michael (partner Pamela and children Jordan, Alexandra and Ian); many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by father Adolph; mother Mary Alice; brothers Alfred, Harry, Norman, James, and Morris; husband, Ed Bland; daughter Sheila; and son John. Isobel was born in Morden, Manitoba September 23, 1919. She attended St. Mary's Academy in Winnipeg and after graduation took a secretarial course until her marriage to Ed Bland. During their marriage they lived in Winnipeg, Regina, Toronto and Edmonton. On Isobel's return to Winnipeg she worked again as a secretary until she took early retirement. Isobel was a very active and dedicated volunteer for the Liberal Party and continued to work for them till her health began to fail. She was always keenly interested in politics and especially the politics of Manitoba. A pastime of Isobel's was working on crosswords and word searches. She was fond of knowing the meanings of unusual words. She was also very fond of reading, it was her hobby and it helped pass many hours for her. Isobel had a fine eye for clothing, materials, tailoring and furnishings. Her early life was a privileged one and that is where she developed her awareness of these things. Thank you to friends, Pat and Adrian who spent many hours visiting Isobel whether it was at home or in the hospital - these visits were always special. Although she was at River Park Gardens for such a short period of time, the family would like to thank all the staff for their special care and attention, truly amazing. On Friday, May 6, 2011 Isobel's Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Following the Interment there will be a Celebration of Life held in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
