THOMAS GEORGE LETCHFORD February 22, 1948 - March 18. 2011 Tom passed away suddenly at his home in Tofino, BC. He will be long remembered by his brother Bob (Barbara), sister Marilyn (Chris), his nephews and nieces Brad, Mike, Sean, Brie, Steph and Danielle, along with other relatives and numerous friends. Tom was born and raised in Winnipeg, then moved to Tofino 24 years ago to set up his custom woodworking business. He built his own home there and soon became well known for his carpentry skills at businesses and homes in Tofino and Ucluelet. His workshop was beside the airport where he built hangars and in turn befriended many pilots who inspired Tom to learn to fly his own plane and obtain his private pilot licence. Tom's engineering skills and attention to detail lasted throughout his life, from building the ultimate speedboat he used on The Lake of the Woods in his early 20s, restoring a couple of Austin-Healeys in his 30s and designing the world's most comfortable chair in his 40s. A celebration of Tom's life will be held in Tofino on May 7. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund in lieu of flowers, please.
