ERNA ROSELLA GIEST (KITSCH) With great sadness we announce the passing of our mother on Friday, April 15, 2011. After a debilitating stroke mom spent a decade in Deer Lodge Centre where many dedicated caregivers made mom as comfortable as possible. We thank all of you. Mom was born in Landestreu, SK, March 15, 1924 to Adam and Elizabeth K. the eldest of a typical farm family of seven children. By the age of 20 mom had met and married Daniel Giest on October 10, 1944. With the birth of Donna they started their family in 1947. More would follow. While farming proved to be less then profitable in their day, the couple with kids chose to move to Winnipeg in 1957 joining city life for a fresh start. Their optimism was dashed in 1958 when they lost Donna in a vehicle accident. An event that scarred them for life. Mom's devotion to the Lutheran Church gave her strength to persevere; the visits while in Deer Lodge Centre from Agnes Luciow and other friends gave her comfort. Family was always close to heart her sisters and brothers held dear, woven in her faith and upbringing. Mom shared the best and worst that life had to offer with her life long husband, and in 2009 they celebrated their 65th anniversary in Deer Lodge Centre together three months before Daniel said his final goodbye. Always you will be missed and forever held close to our hearts. Erna was predeceased by her daughter Donna, her parents Adam and Elizabeth, her brother Mervin, her husband Daniel, and her sister Bertha. Our Dear mother leaves to mourn son Larry (Judy), son Melvin (Betty), daughter Debbie, daughter Teresa (Stuart), son Dennis, sister Norma, sister Alice, brothers Earl (Ali) and Calvin, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association OR the St. James Lutheran Church would honour her. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with interment and reception to follow.
