Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryM. ANNE DOUGLAS (nee BLACK) December 9, 1924 - February 2, 2011 On February 2 2011, Marguerite Anne' Douglas passed away at the age of 86. Anne leaves a legacy of love through her children: Bev (Don) Potter, Jim (Donna) Douglas, Calla (Greg) Lofvendahl; grandchildren: Cassandra (Sean) Bird, Michael (Kimberlee) Potter, Bryan Douglas, Scott (Melissa) Douglas; and great-grandchildren: Dallas Bird and Samantha Potter. She will be deeply missed by her sister Jean (Ken) Christie; sisters-in-law Dorothy Treble and Marg Black; many cousins, nieces, and nephews from the Black and Douglas clans and countless friends. Anne was born on December 9, 1924 in Oakburn, Manitoba; the third of six children born to David and Alma (McFadyen) Black. She was predeceased by siblings: Jim (January 2005), Grace (November 2005), Wilf (October 1980), and Lil (March 1995). Anne grew up on the family farm and was educated in the Oakburn area until her family moved to Winnipeg in 1941 where she completed her schooling at Gordon Bell High School. After finishing business school, she was employed at Eaton's until her marriage. In June 1948, she married Herbert James Douglas and St. James was their home for 58 plus years together. Moorgate Street was where they raised their family and became a gathering place for family and friends; especially for New Years with neighbours and the Solsgirth gang'. Later, Anne and Herb moved to Sinawik Bay and finally The Westhaven. With Herb's passing in April 2007, Anne found comfort and support in the caring staff and friends at The Westhaven. In October 2010, Anne was admitted to Grace Hospital until moving at the end of December to Vista Park Lodge, where Mom received loving and respectful care. Anne lived a life full of love, laughter, family and friends. She led by example that you could do anything you set your mind to. She was community minded, volunteered and worked varied jobs outside the home. Mom reveled in a quiet afternoon in the garden - watching the sun rise over a campsite - dancing the night away. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments and enjoyed the antics of her beloved great-grandchildren. Mom was passionate about music, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, travel and sports - especially baseball, football and curling. A memorial service to celebrate Anne's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
