VERIA JOYCE VIVIAN SAMPSON It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great- grandmother Veria Joyce Vivian Sampson (nee Block). Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Veria was predeceased by her beloved husband Webb in 1976. Left behind to cherish her memory are daughters Wendy, Jennifer (Gerald Beilner) Keewatin, ON, Janice (Rod Biebrich) and Susan (Robert Choquette) Springfield, MB, grandchildren Jennifer Biebrich (Neil Adamson), tamara rae biebrich (Mike Carroll), Cheryl Beilner (Kelly Davidson) Rivers, MB, Tyler Beilner, Kenora, ON, Gesserit and Zane Choquette. Her great-grandchildren Cameron and Claire Rae Adamson in recent times brought her great joy. Mom was born February 24, 1929 in Moosejaw, SK. She grew up in Flin Flon, MB. Married John Wilbur Dolph Sampson of Glenboro, MB. They began their family in Glenboro, then moved to Winnipeg raising four daughters in St. Vital and North Kildonan. Mom was an exceptionally hard worker as a homemaker, digging a basement singlehandedly under our house on Varennes Ave, actively involved in building our home on Corinne St., painting the interior. We came home from school to hot lunches every day. Memories of Mom include her expression of surprise Holy Doodle , sewing her daughters and granddaughters co-ordinated dresses for special occasions and attracting all the neighbourhood kids for her homemade donuts. We looked forward to Mom's vinarterta every Christmas. Mom was an avid gardener with the most beautiful canna lilies, geraniums, salvia and alyssum in addition to her vegetable garden. She curled in the women's league at Rossmere, bowled and later in life began carpet bowling. Having grown up poor she took great pride in her appearance (the grandchildren found her quite glamorous!) and always wanted her children well dressed, something we rebelled against as teenagers. Mom also took great joy in summers spent at the cabin at Big Whiteshell Lake with the family, swimming, water skiing, berry picking and maintaining the most weed free yard. We all dreaded the weed picking prior to going to the beach. Overcoming many life challenges, Mom delighted in the simple pleasures of time spent cooking and playing games with her children and grandchildren. The grandkids credit their manners to Grandma's influence. Her legacy is a close knit family. We wish to convey our heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Kin Place, especially Shauna, Mave and Darcy for Mom's care and the compassion they showed to all of us in her final hours. We also wish to thank Holly at Seasons Funeral Home for the arrangements. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Mom's wishes a private celebration of her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or The Salvation Army, 180 Henry Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0J8.
