THORBERG JOHANNESSON MD, RCPS It is with great sadness that we announce Thor Johannesson, beloved husband of Phyllis (nee MacDonald), passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 90 years of age. Thor was predeceased by his parents, Haldor and Ragnheidur Johannesson; and siblings, Helgi, Asta, Ella, Helga and Asgeir. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis; three sons, James (Manon) (Erik), David and Alan; daughter Susan Holliday (Mark) (Bradley and Coleman); and sister-in-law Bettie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Thor was born in Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a medical degree in 1945. He then served in the Canadian Army Medical Corp, and practiced in both Gilbert Plains and Arborg as a family doctor. Subsequently, Thor returned to Winnipeg and in 1957 obtained his Anaesthetic designation. He went on to practice anaesthesia at Health Sciences Centre followed by 40 years at the Misericordia. Thor was a kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed. The family invites friends to a gathering to celebrate Thor's life at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 255 Wellington Crescent in the recreation room. Flowers are gratefully declined.
