NIKOLAOS VERGOULIAS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nikolaos Vergoulias, age 81, with his family by his side on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre. He is survived by his loving wife, Paraskevi Voula Vergoulias, his two children, Chrysoula Kotoulas and George Vergoulias, his five grandchildren, Sotirios, Voula and Nicholas Kotoulas and Nicholas and Natalie Vergoulias, five siblings, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and close friends. Nikolaos was born on February 18, 1930 in Makrirachi, Pelion, Greece to George and Angela (Tsitsirikou) Vergoulias. He lived through the Second World War, the Civil War and famine. He served his country for four years and later trained as a mechanic. He then started his own passenger bus company that covered difficult untravelled routes throughout the rugged Greek landscape. He and his wife moved to Winnipeg in 1982 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Nikolaos celebrated life to the fullest. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and family. He was a passionate debater of ideas in the town squares and cafes inspiring his many friends. He loved to sing, dance, eat and drink. He was cool. Our family extends our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, followed by a reception for family and friends at The Fort Garry Hotel, 222 Broadway. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C OX4 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com
