Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWINNIFRED COOKE (nee BENNETT) June 22, 1912 - April 23, 2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Winnie, on April 23, 2011 at Vista Park Lodge, with her family at her side. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Jim, in September of 1993, and her daughter Joan (Dewey) in August, 1942. Dewey passed away at the age of four and a half years while Dad was serving overseas in the Second World War - a very sad time in Mom's life. Also predeceasing Mom were her three sisters: Ivy, Lily and Dorothy (Dolly); two brothers: Tom and Ernie, and her niece Gail. Mom is survived by her sons: Kenneth (Harriet) and grandson Jeffery; Gordon (Barbara); as well as her brother Harry Bennett, numerous nieces, nephews and their spouses: Donna (Stan), Janice (Andy), Wendy (Don), Bruce (Pat), Lawrence (Hilda), and Brian (Cheryl). Mom will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. Mom was born in Portsmouth, England in 1912 and came to Canada in 1917 during the First World War at the age of five. She resided in St. James until 1922 when the family moved to Inwood, MB where they stayed until 1935 when they moved to St. Vital. Mom was a second mother to all six of her younger siblings while growing up in Inwood. Mom met Dad shortly after and they married in 1937, finally settling in Norwood where they raised their family. A dedicated mother who loved to cook and bake for her family, visit her siblings, and enjoyed many camping trips throughout Manitoba, Canada, U.S.A., with many trips back to England and visits to Central and South America. The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their loving care of Mom for the last four years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.
