DEACON JULIUS (JULES) REZNIK Peacefully on Easter Tuesday, April, 26, 2011 Jules passed away at the Grace Hospital in the arms of his beloved wife Catherine and his family at his side. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 59 years, Catherine and their children Tony (Donna), Cathie, Julie (Will) and George and by one brother George (Carol) Reznik. Also left to mourn his passing are 12 loving grandchildren and three precious great-grandchildren all of whom he adored, as well as many extended family and friends. Jules was predeceased by his parents Julius and Anna Reznik and his eldest son Michael Joseph Reznik. Jules was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg. After a long career at C.N.R., Jules was ordained a deacon of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Winnipeg in 1979. He and Cathy served the people of St. Joseph's Parish in Stony Mountain for 28 years, until 2007 when they retired to Winnipeg. Jules was devoted to the inmates of Stony Mountain Penitentiary, and was their friend and counselor for 20 years. When he retired, he and Cathy spoke of their eternal love for all they served, pledging to remember them in prayer always. In the 1990s, Jules and Cathy became Oblates of St. Benedict's Monastery in Winnipeg, promising to follow the Rule of Benedict in work and prayer. In the name of Jesus, Jules and Cathy faithfully carried the monastic charisms of ecumenism, hospitality and peace to everyone they served. A celebration of Jules' life will take place on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Benedict's Monastery located 225 Masters Ave., West St. Paul. According to his wishes a private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Jules' name to the Manitoba Lung Association or St. Benedict's Monastery. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
