Peter met his wife, Ann while working at the Inco mine in Thompson, MB at the age of 21. Shortly after they met along came a daughter, Jeannie and then a son, Jason three years later which made him so proud. All those that remember Peter would remember his love for his very large garden that he would attend to daily with the help of his wife and children. There was never any shortage of fresh vegetable and canning in Peter's home. Whenever a friend or family came to visit he was always feeding them just like his mother, Dora used to do when her family came to visit. Peter was the best cook in the world and passed down many of his recipes to his daughter and son. Peter loved the outdoors and because of this he took his family camping every weekend he had a chance to Hecla Island which was his favourite camping spot.
