JAMES RANDOLPH CAMERON Jim died peacefully in his sleep at his home on March 30, 2011, aged 82 years. He will be sadly missed by his children, Neil, Helen (Glen), and Ruth (Daniel); grandchildren, Cameron, Martin, Duncan, and Callie; and his brother, Campbell Massey. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary E. Cameron. Jim graduated from Gordon Bell High School in 1946. While attending school, he helped support his family by delivering newspapers, working as a bus boy and cleaning rail cars. He then graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1950 with double honours in English and History. While at university, he sang in Gilbert and Sullivan productions, directed plays, and sold Nabob tea and coffee to help cover his university tuition, while still cleaning rail cars. After graduation, he had a varied career. First, he taught high school, in Gimli, MB, and then in ClearWater and Burn's Lake, BC. After teaching, he began a career in publicity with two main themes: the Arts and agriculture. On the agriculture side, he worked with United Grain Growers and Rohm and Haas, among others. On the Arts side, he worked for many years for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, including, for a time, as their general manager. He helped bring The Great Circus of China and the Moscow Circus to Canada. He moved his family to Niagara Falls for a few years, where he was the general manager of Louis Tussaud's Wax Museum and also worked for the Skylon Tower. Among many charitable efforts, he worked for the Injured Workers Association of Manitoba. He was proud to be part of the St. Norbert community, and was particularly proud of his efforts for Heritage St. Norbert. Jim's final job was the one he considered most important, caring for his wife, Mary, as she struggled with Parkinson's disease. Even as he fell victim to the disease himself, he continued to visit Mary every day. A memorial service was held Monday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2.
