OLGA SCHMIDT (nee DYBBERT) With great sorrow, the family of Olga Schmidt announces her passing at the age of 89, at Victoria Hospital. She died of a heart attack, although she had several other health issues. She was the much-loved mother of Lucy Billson (Kim) and Alvin, also devoted Oma to Stasha, She was predeceased by her husband, Willy in 2006. She is survived by nieces and nephews and their families here in Canada, in Germany she leaves two sisters and their families, and special friends Franz and Barb with their endless supply of cookies and apples. Olga was born in Poland, moved to Canada in 1951, she met Willy and married and had Lucy and Alvin. During the early years, life was a struggle. She worked at the old General Hospital as a nurse's aid, later at the Courier German newspaper and then at Kmart. She was an incredible cook, canned anything you could squeeze into a jar, loved to garden, redecorate and shop. She was also fiercely stubborn and independent and refused to use a walker and wouldn't consider going into a seniors home. She lived life her way, independently (with a little help from her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter) to the end. Her greatest joys were shopping at Winners, any kind of cheesecake, reading the Enquirer, watching CNN and German TV. She loved outings with her daughter and granddaughter. She was always excited in spring when the gardening centres opened and up to her 88th year had incredible pots of flowers outside her door. There will be no formal funeral as per Olga's wishes. Rest well Mom You lived and were so loved. We miss you already so much. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
