EILEEN ELEANOR ZARVIE (nee THORARINSON) September 11, 1930 - April 29, 2011 With family by her side our precious mother, Eileen E. Zarvie, left us on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Tudor House Personal Care Home. Mom was predeceased by parents Arni and Anna Thorarinson; daughter Sharon; grandchild Melissa; brother Arni; brother-in-law Ray and sister-in-law Olga. She is survived by her daughter Debby, grandchild Meghan, great-grandson Kaiden; son Dennis (Judy), grand-children Sharlene (Tim), Sharri-lyn, Kathryn (Alex); daughter Marianne (Gord); daughter Maureen (Derrell) grandchildren Jessica and Sarah; son-in-law John (Cathy), grandchildren Nicholas, Shandal and Heather. Mom is also survived by sisters Mabel, Laura (Dick), and Julie; sister-in-law Polly; brother-in-law Steve (Beryl) . Aunty I will be missed by her much loved nieces and nephews. Mom's warmth, humour and humanity gave great joy to family and friends. Her room filling boisterous laugh was one of a kind, well recognized at work and in the community. Zarv spent the majority of her working years employed at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre as a cook. She was very involved with the MGEU, receiving the Humanitarian award in 2007. During this same time she also worked part time for Rose Marie's catering and Ludwick's catering. She loved the social interaction. Retirement proved to be too idle a pastime for this spunky energetic spitfire. As a result, Our Daily Bread Soup kitchen was founded. She spent countless hours cooking and raising funds for this worthy cause. Mom's greatest joys in life were her family and grandchildren, attending every tea and performance of their varied activities. Grandma's legacy was having the patience to teach all of them to make her famous perogies, flour was everywhere and never a shortage of aprons. She was a hands on grandma. Mom taught by example. She was a resilient, independent woman that raised her five children and taught them valuable life skills they carry with them to this day. The family thanks the staff at Tudor House for the excellent care and compassion during Mom's time with them. A celebration of her life will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk MB on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. with viewing one hour prior. Cremation and a family committal service will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to the Selkirk Evangelical Lutheran Church, Box 65, Selkirk, Mb, R1A 2B1. To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
