JAMES FRANK STUART December 13, 1931 - April 30, 2011 With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Jim. Jim passed away Saturday morning in Stonewall Hospital with his wife and daughters by his side. Husband of 54 years to Winnifred, father to Tammy (Ray) Blowers and Crystal, grandfather to Michael, Shawn and Derek. Being the youngest of six children he will be missed by his brother Bob (Barb) Stuart of Eriksdale, his brother- in-law Fred, his sisters-in-law Astrid, Edith and Irene, numerous nieces and nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Doris, brother Don and three sisters Edna, Muriel and May. Jim was born in La Riviere and at the age of ten moved with his family to the Argyle area. He alone with his father made the four day journey in a horse drawn wagon which they shared with a sow and her six piglets. After a five year courtship Dad married the love of his life, Winnifred. They began their married life together in Vancouver, BC but after a year long bout of homesickness Mom convinced him that Argyle was home. It was here that they continued to live and raise their family. He had a soft spot in his heart for his two daughters who learned early on that with a softly spoken Daaad they could usually talk him into getting almost anything, with the same being true for his three grandsons. He was always very interested in what they were doing and was always available for a ride to the arena or the golf course. He delighted in tying skates or chasing after stray golf balls. Jim's lifetime career in heavy construction took him across the country from Northern Ontario through the western provinces to British Columbia, the Yukon and into the Territories where he discovered a love of the north country. With strong encouragement from his wife he accepted a job with the R.M. of Woodlands in 1981 where he worked until his retirement in 1997. With more free time Dad was able to combine his love of golf and travel which both he and Mom enjoyed together as they drove from course to course throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Dad's interests also included working in the yard. After a long day at work he was often seen watering the flower gardens in the dark. In later years Dad could be found enjoying his morning coffee at the kitchen table while watching the antics of the birds outside the window. He was ever vigilant to see that the feeders were kept full for fear that the poor birds would have to scrounge elsewhere for their meals. We'll miss you Dad/Papa Jim, and will be thinking of you often. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, followed by burial at St. Oswald cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care in Stonewall or the Lung Association of Manitoba 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
