MATTHILDUR (MATTIE) SYLVIA BRYNGELSON Matthildur (Mattie) Sylvia Bryngelson died peacefully May 2, 2011 with family by her side. Born October 10, 1928, in Glenboro, Manitoba, Mattie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Earl, in 1983. She is survived by her four children, Jan Bateman (Tim, Rachel and Kyle) of Kansas City, John Bryngelson (Jeni, David and Eric) of Winnipeg, Karen Bryngelson (Sarah (Adam) and David (Laura)) of Winnipeg and Barbara Labossiere (Jerry, Greg and Amy) of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Mattie was also a great-grandmother to two beautiful girls, Emily and Olivia. Mattie was born of Icelandic descent, only child of Gudrun and Fridjon Goodman. Growing up in Glenboro, Mattie was a prairie girl at heart, cherishing her close-knit community of relatives. She met the love of her life, Earl Bryngelson, while in Nursing Training at Grace Hospital. Mattie and Earl were married in 1950 and moved to Kenora, Ontario where Earl practiced medicine until his heartbreaking untimely death in 1983. Mattie was active in the life of a small town, raising her four children and enjoying many warm friendships. Following Earl's death, Mattie moved to Winnipeg. Mom gave unconditional love to us and we are grateful that Nanny was an integral part of her grandchildren's lives. She was a generous, gentle soul with a delightful sense of humour. Her loss to us is profound. According to Mattie's wishes, immediate cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mattie would be honoured by any donations to the Dr. E. S. Bryngelson Memorial Fund, in care of Manitoba Medical College Foundation Inc., 260 Brodie Centre, 727 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 3P5 or the Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 2P4, in recognition of their excellent and compassionate care.
