(continued...) LILLIAN ROSE SLIMMEN Her 96th Birthday was an unforgettable one. Unknown to Mom, her favourite nephew, Roger Crocombe and wife Irene had come from the Lakehead to participate in the celebration. There was also a surprise visit from an old friend and neighbour, Jean Sotham. They had written or phoned each other, but had never met for some 65 odd years. Jean's daughter Ruth had been notified and brought her Mom to River East. When they met it was hard to know who was the most excited. There they were, two old friends, in their wheelchairs, holding hands, reminiscing, laughing and expressing disbelief. In April 2010 two ladies, Madeline Swaffer and Margaret Mauthe, from the Prince Edward Ladies' Auxiliary came to River East and presented Mom with her 70 year service pin. Mom was an amazing, beautiful lady who exemplified love, truth, respect, compassion, benevolence and fortitude. She was never pretentious and possessed an almost uncanny sense of wit. We were certainly blessed and are proudly honoured to know that Lillian was our Mother. With respect to Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial / remembrance service with family and friends will be conducted at Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. If so desired, a donation to Lillian's favourite charity, The Winnipeg Humane Society may be made in her memory. Those we love don't go away They walk beside us every day Unseen, unheard, but always near Still loved, still missed and very dear.
