ELAINE ALMA BAILEY April 16, 1917 - April 11, 2011 Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at Oak Bay Lodge, Victoria, BC April 11, 2011. Elaine was born on a farm just outside of Melita, MB and was the only daughter of Payson and Nellie Elliott and sister of Eldon, all predeceased. Mom moved to Winnipeg in her 20s where she met her husband Alexander Bailey (predeceased). Her son Alexander Jr. is predeceased as well as his wife Evelyn Bailey. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Caron of Victoria, BC, partner Arthur, and Joan of Winnipeg. She also leaves behind her granddaughter Jane and partner Glen; grandson Kevin Bailey, wife Kim and two great-grandsons Kyle and Travis and great-granddaughter Alexia Bailey of Victoria, BC. A longtime resident of Winnipeg, Mom will be missed by her neighbours past, Lynne Mustard, who was like another daughter, and her husband Bill Cordray, Frank and Diane Roberts, their children David and Anne, and Margaret. Mom and husband Alex shared many interests together: curling, lapidary, silver-smything and gemology. Elaine loved to be active and involved, and after her husband's passing she volunteered as a Goldwing Ambassador with the Winnipeg Airport for 20 years, joined a scrabble club, as she could play it for hours, and continued to cook delicious, hearty meals for family and friends. She loved to travel and in her later years visited England, the Caribbean, the U.S. and many parts of Canada. In her advancing years, Mom moved to Victoria for support from her daughter Caron. She loved the ocean, the activity on Willows Beach - patting the dogs and chatting with the children. We spent many afternoons together on the beach watching sailboats go by. The family wants to express our gratitude to the staff at Oak Bay Lodge for their loving and professional care of Mom over the past three years and for making her comfortable in her final days. God Bless You Mom and Thank You for your mother care over these many years - you were always there for us. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be announced at a later date and will be held in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
