Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN MACKENZIE PEAREN After an incredible life and into her 96th year, Jean passed away peacefully at home in the company of her family on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Jean was born in Winnipeg on January 14, 1916 to John and Grace Gordon, who predeceased her, as did her sister, Norma Urquhart. She is survived by her sons, David (Lynne) and Donald (James); her grandchildren, Christopher (Suzanne), Dale (Kerri), and Blair (Jenn); her great-grandchildren: Emma, Laura, Ben and Emerson; and her sister, Ruth Fraser. In 1937, Jean graduated in Interior Design in Toronto and then returned to Winnipeg to begin what would become an illustrious career in Interior Design for which she was incredibly gifted and continued up to her final days. In honour of her 80th birthday, she chose to establish a scholarship fund to benefit students in the Masters Program of Interior Design at the University of Manitoba. Jean was very proud of her involvement with the McKinnon Guild Nearly New Shop and as a volunteer at the Grace Hospital, both of which honored her with 25-year service pins. She accepted what life presented to her and moved forward with strength, elegance and dignity. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kevin Coates for his loving devotion and special care he provided to Jean allowing her to remain at home. As per her wish, in lieu of a funeral service, Jean requested a celebration of her life for all that knew her. The celebration will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at her residence in 323 Wellington Crescent between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Jean M. Pearen Scholarship Fund, Department of Development, Room 179 Extended Education, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB. R3T 2N2 or to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, CE501 - 840 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB. R3A 1S1.
