She spent many years involved with Blessed John XXIII parish, teaching Catechism and as a member of the Catholic Women's League. Shirley spent countless summers at the cabin in Gimli and enjoyed many road trips in the motor home. She loved baking, playing bingo, blanket weaving and watching her grandsons play hockey. While only learning of her cancer a very short time ago, Shirley courageously endured her illness, being a constant inspiration to all of those who were with her during this time. Not only was she a guiding light to her family and friends, but also to the medical students who were blessed with the opportunity to witness her gentle spirit and faith in her final days as part of their education process. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue at Rouge Road with Rev. Fr. Gerald Langevin, presiding. The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to family and friends for their support during this time. A very special thank you to the incredible medical staff at the Health Sciences Centre A4, the Palliative Care nurses, homecare staff and Riverview Health Centre, your expertise allowed us to continue creating fond memories up to her very last day. Shirley will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed with the opportunity to know her and her memory will forever live on.
