KATHERINE WASZKIEWICZ

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE WASZKIEWICZ Peacefully on May 5, 2011 at Holy Family Home, Katherine passed away at the age of 91 years. Katherine was predeceased by her dear husband Stanley, in November 1994. Katherine was born Katarzyna Krochmal in Barkaczow, Poland on February 28, 1920, the youngest of five children. At the beginning of the war, she was taken to Germany to work as a farm labourer. She escaped to Munich and worked in a restaurant kitchen for the duration of the war. In Munich, she met her beloved Stanley and they married in 1943. As part of the postwar settlement opportunities, they and their son went to Belgium. In 1952, Stan and Kay and their son and daughter immigrated to Canada. In Winnipeg, Katherine worked at Dominion Tanners and then at Winnipeg Drapery for 20 years. She travelled to Poland, England, Trinidad, Italy and Vienna. Katherine was an active parishioner at St. John Cantius Church since coming to Canada. She leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Barbara (Jim), granddaughters Mary, Emily and Jenny (Rob), and great-grandson Charlie; son Frank (Liz), granddaughters Heather, Katherine (Allan), and great grandson Grayson. Katherine spent her final years at Holy Family Home with exceptional care from the loving staff on St. Francis Ward. Prayers will be said on Monday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Inkster. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Avenue. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Family Home would be appreciated. We miss you, Baba. 586-8044
