We announce with sorrow the passing of Christopher James Martin on May 5, 2011, at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, at the age of 60. Predeceased in May of 2010 by his brother Peter D. Martin (Pauline) of Ottawa. Beloved husband of the late Lorraine (nee Chambers). He is survived by his daughter Kristin Garriock, Winnipeg; grandchildren Kai and Elle; parents James and Maureen Martin of Winnipeg; brothers Gerard (Brenda), Cobourg, ON, Andrew (Jennifer), Vancouver, BC, Michael (Janice), Winnipeg; sisters Mary-Lou (Ralph) Gerherd, Ottawa, ON, Margaret (the late Tony) Girardini, Timmins, ON, CeCe (Todd) Chapel, Winnipeg, Jan (Dan) Villeneuve, Burlington, ON, and Angela (Dan) MacDonald, Winnipeg. Chris will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Chris was born in Sunderland, England, arrived in Canada in the mid 1950s and spent his youth in Nova Scotia. After high school Christopher served with the Royal Canadian Air Force prior to joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police until his retirement in 2005. Chris had a great love of the outdoors. He expressed this with his many hours afield hunting, fishing, and horseback riding on his trusted steed Whimpy . Donations can be made to the Inner City Kids Therapeutic Riding Association in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held from Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow. Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m., at The Army and Navy, Unit 283 - 3584 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.
