Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Donald, her brothers Billy, John, George and Alex Sylvia was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MB and as a young lady moved to the family homestead in East Selkirk. Sylvia loved to travel on the train to Winnipeg Beach and Grand Beach where dances were held. She soon met Don Hendry, fell in love and were married in 1956, they then moved to Winnipeg to start a family and a life together. In 1957 they moved to Selkirk where they raised their ever-growing family. Sylvia worked at Brown's Bakery for a number of years, after which she worked as a cook at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre until her retirement at the age of 65. Never feeling the need to own a car, she was very active up until her illness and enjoyed her daily walks around Selkirk. Not one to sit idle following her retirement, Sylvia was very active and loved to volunteer. She put many hours in at The House of Economy thrift store, the Soup Kitchen and the Gordon Howard Senior Centre. She enjoyed the laughs and time spent pinching perogies, cooking turkeys and preparing wonderful meals. Sylvia received many Volunteer Appreciation awards for all the hard work she provided. Sylvia made the Lions Centre her home where she enjoyed her time playing cards with many new friends and volunteering her time on the social committee. She enjoyed the monthly birthday celebrations with her fellow residents and celebrated her 84th birthday with them. Sylvia enjoyed travelling whether it was bus tours or the two Alaskan cruises with her brother Al and daughters Wanda and Karen; she made every moment count. With all her many interests, absolutely nothing was more important than her family. Spending a holiday dinner together was always a special time. Flowers gratefully declined.
