ERNA DYCK Surrounded by family this past Sunday, May 8, 2011, at early dawn of Mother's Day, God gently carried Erna Dyck to be with Him. Erna was predeceased by her husband, Bernard A. Dyck, her parents, three brothers and five sisters. Left with fondest memories are seven children: Elsie (Jake) Hamm, John (Helen) Dyck, Lynn (Hank) Boschman, Victor (Lydia) Dyck, Allen (Gerry) Dyck, Shirley (Abe) Banman, and Alvin (Anita) Dyck; 19 grand-children, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great- great-grandchildren. All were special to her. She also leaves to mourn three sisters: Helen Warkentin, Sadie Petkau, and Kathleen (David) Klassen, and one sister-in-law, Anita Froese. Many nieces and nephews and friends also mourn her passing. Erna was born on July 10, 1919, in Schoenberg, Chortiza, Ukraine. On March 23, 1930, at the age of 10, Erna immigrated to Canada with her family, settling in Rosenort, Manitoba. Erna accepted Christ as her Saviour in her teens while attending camp. She was baptized and Erna's strong faith in Jesus carried her throughout life. Erna always had an overwhelmingly generous nature and a passion to help others, whether it was through baking and cooking, sewing and quilting, or gardening. Time and again she said to us: Count your many blessings. Name them one by one, and see what God has done! In 1919, God reached down in His amazing grace to a seemingly insignificant little girl in Russia; He protected, guided and moulded her, through much tragedy and triumph, into the most beautiful treasure: our Mom! The family wishes to thank those who cared for her with dignity and respect while at Donwood, and especially in her last days and hours. Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Donwood Manor, 170 Donwood Drive. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, at 11:30 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Ave.
