Date of Passing: May 04, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE HAMRLIK (GENYK) April 1, 1917 - May 4, 2011 Peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in her residence in Hodgson, MB Anne passed away at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her daughter Leanne, son-in-law Henry of Winnipeg, MB, two granddaughters Michelle of Winnipeg and Jodi of Lethbridge, AB. As well as two special nieces Donna Hamrlik and Valerie Botwright (Hamrlik). Anne is also survived by her sister Pauline Andrieshyn of Fisher Branch, MB and sisters-in-law Olga Genyk and Laura Genyk as well as several nieces and nephews and friends and goddaughter Terry Gashuliak (Schreyer). Anne was predeceased by husband Albert in 1987, her parents Harry and Eva Genyk, four brothers Bill, Nick, Mike and Dan and the Hamrlik family. Mom was born and raised in Fisher Branch. She did not have an easy childhood as her mother passed away when she was 6 years old. Mom and Dad were married on September 4, 1943 in Winnipeg. While Dad was in the RCAF, Mom worked at Winnipeg Cold Storage to save money to move back to the farm. After the Second World War ended, Mom and Dad moved back to Hodgson, built their own home and became very successful farmers. After many years of hard work, their union unexpectedly produced their one and only child, Leanne. Mom's love was farming and gardening. She spent many evenings working at the local bingo, was involved with the Hodgson Community Club and the Anglican Church in Hodgson and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #158. Mom was also involved in the organization of many curling suppers. Mom's love for her family was never ending and unconditional. Michelle and Jodi gave her a new meaning to life. When her daughter Leanne had a major health issue, Granny H tended to her granddaughters even at the age of 85 years. Anne had an amazing talent in the kitchen. Her pickles were second to none and her cabbage rolls were the best. She loved to do jumble puzzles with Leanne at morning coffee. Even though her eyes failed her, she always managed to finish the puzzle. She brought a new meaning to the term feisty . She continued to look her best, trips to the hairdresser (Franca) and pedicures were essentials to her city visits. She loved shopping with her daughter Leanne. Henry and I have great memories of coming out on a Friday night and were greeted to home made chicken soup and fresh baked bread. Gardening was her passion. She planted enough for the entire Interlake. Her flower beds were always pristine, never a weed to be found. Special thanks to the staff at Percy E. Moore Hospital, to Bob Schreyer and the staff at Fisher Branch Home Care, to James Thiessen and Irene Hofer at the Early Settler's Lodge and to all the family, friends and neighbours who visited Mom in the hospital. Anne's celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Phillips Anglican Church in Hodgson, MB officiated by Rev. John Harper and Pastor James Thiessen. Interment will immediately follow at the Hodgson Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Hodgson Community Club (next to the Early Settler's Lodge.) Respecting Mom's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hodgson Cemetery Fund. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Arborg in care of arrangements
