ELSIE NOVA January 30, 1917 - May 9, 2011 With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother on May 9, 2011 at Park Manor Personal Care Home. Elsie is survived by her daughters Leona Bolin of Winnipeg and Bette Connors of London, Ontario; son Geoff Nova (Mary-Ann) of Whitby, Ontario and brother Ray Mikolash of Winnipeg. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Michelle (Wayne) Docking, Suzanne Bolin (Neil McColl), Curt (Norma) Bolin, Renée (Jeff) Nichols, Aaron (Genny) Connors, Adam (Malia) Connors, and Kyle Nova; her great-grandchildren Tyler, Hope, Claire, Shalene, Kayla, Destiny, Drake, Caleb, Tanner, Jordan and Benjamin, and her sisters-in-law Marie, Pauline, Mary and Kay. Her nieces and nephews will be left with many fond memories. Elsie is predeceased by her husband Nick; her sister Anne; brothers Al, Tom, Jack and Leo, and sons-in-law Ron and Verner. Elsie was born in Ladywood and moved with her family to East Selkirk at age 15. Always the adventurous person she moved to Toronto at age 19 where she worked for three years before moving back to East Selkirk, marrying Nick and raising her family. Elsie's passion in life was cooking and she was welcoming to all who arrived at her door to visit and enjoy her wonderful food. Elsie was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir. She and her good friend Jean Drobot were original members of the Catholic Women's League, and they enjoyed celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the CWL in 2009. Elsie was a devoted member of the CWL and served as secretary several times. Elsie was employed by the East Selkirk post office where she thoroughly enjoyed her work. After retiring Elsie served as Treasurer and Director of the East Selkirk Senior Citizens Club. Elsie moved to Winnipeg in 1999 where she made her home first at Columbus Villa apartments and then Park Manor Personal Care Home. Our lives will not be the same without our mom and grandma. She was an important and influential part of our lives and she is and will always be dearly missed. Elsie's family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Park Manor Personal Care Home for their compassion and care. Prayers will be said on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Stanilaus Roman Catholic Church, East Selkirk, MB. Interment will follow in the East Selkirk Cemetery.
